With the Russian attack on Ukraine in February 2022, one of Europe’s largest refugee movements in decades began. Many people took their pets with them as they fled – often without papers, food or veterinary care.
Thousands were stranded at the border crossings. Animals were exhausted, injured or sick; within the war zone itself countless animals were left behind or trapped.
The ADRG set up a supply station at the Ukrainian border and additionally supported evacuations within Ukraine.
Over several weeks, people and animals in the region were cared for, evacuated and brought to safety.
